Donald Jones Obituary

Donald (Don) Ray Jones
Don, (Papa) as the grandkids called him, passed away on April 16, 2018, at his home.
Graveside services will be held in IOOF cemetery on Thursday the 19th of April, 2018 at 2 PM.
Don was born on October 28, 1936 to Homer Jones and Doris (Elliott) Jones. Growing
up he lived in Osage and Kay counties. When he was 13 years old he traveled with his uncle
Pete to the rodeos in Texas. There he tried his hand at being a barrel man and a little bull riding.
He told about getting thrown on his head more than once and about getting bounced around in
the barrel. He met his first wife, Shirley Quimby, at a dance in Newkirk. They married-on June
28, 1952. Work was slow in OK, so they traveled to California, but the car broke down, so  they
took what little money they had and came back to Ponca on a Greyhound bus. To this marriage
they had two daughters, Jackie and Belva. Through the years he worked as a boilermaker
(starting out as a tankie). Later he joined the Pipefitters Union. His jobs took him to many
places, Wyoming, Colorado, Tennessee, Mississippi, Ohio and many more states. He was one of
the best welders around and helped many young men learn to weld. Don was a member of the
Pipefitters Union 430 for 56 years. In his spare time whether here in Ponca or on the road he
found others who loved to play music. They would get together and play guitars for hours. He
loved spending time with family as well as enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loving
husband, daddy and papa. He was a giving man and never asked for anything in return. In
September 1995 he married Wanda Bishop Owsley in Cheyenne, WY at T-Joes where they
danced the evening away. He is survived by his wife Wanda, daughter Belva Mueller ( Ed), grandchildren Laura
Glaser Pruett, Michael Webber, Amber Glaser Hatcher (Gerald) and Jamie Webber Clement,
Sister, Donna Kay Tetevuide and brother Jimmy Jones. He is also survived by 13 great-
grandchildren and 10 1/2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,  his first wife of 42 year Shirley, daughter Jackie
Webber Wilkinson, brother Homer Jr and sister Carolyn.Cremation is under the administration of Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service Enid, OK.
