Donald Louis Lambring
Donald Louis Lambring’s life was complete in this world on July 22, 2017. He passed away with his family by his side at the age of 79.
Don was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Blackwell, to Louis and Louise Lambring. After graduating high school in 1955, Donald joined the Navy. He was discharged in 1958 and went to junior college in Arkansas City and graduated in 1960. Donald then went to Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kan., and graduated in 1962. While at college in Emporia, he met the love of his life, Sharla Bliss, and they were married on June 24, 1962. Together, they lived and taught in Kansas City, Kan., until 1969. It was then that they moved to Ponca City, where Don worked one year at Conoco, then taught one year at Blackwell High School and then began teaching at East Junior High in Ponca City in 1971. While teaching at East, he also began coaching girls tennis and basketball. He eventually moved up to coach high school girls tennis.
Don retired from coaching and teaching in 1996, but continued to live a busy life. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, driving the activity bus for Ponca City Schools and also getting involved in the GOOFS flight group, playing cards with his coaching buddies, and going to coffee with his tennis group.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Henry Lambring.
Don is survived by his wife, Sharla; two children, a daughter, Heidi Hemry of Norman, her daughters, Reagan Geiges, Camille Hemry, and Faith Hemry; and daughter, Darci Wilson, and her husband, Jeromy, of Arvada, Colo., and their son, Eli Wilson, and daughter, Sophie Wilson.
Don enjoyed traveling with his wife, singing in the church choir, and being a lector/chalice bearer. He also enjoyed watching the many activities his grandchildren were involved in, taking trips to Norman for OU gymnastics meets and football games, Oklahoma City for Thunder games, track meets at Norman High, soccer games in both Oklahoma and Colorado and hockey games in Colorado. He completed a long and satisfying life, creating cherished memories for everyone who crossed his path. Don’s love for his Lord and Savior was evident in how he lived his live, becoming a role model for so many. Because of that, he left a heritage of treasured family and friends.
The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, at Grace Episcopal Church. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 109 North Thirteenth Street, Ponca City, OK 74601.
