Gary Bringham Obituary

Retired United States Marine Captain Gary L Bringham passed away on April 1, 2024, at the age of 89 years old. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Gary was the son of Art and Velma Bringham, who proceeded him in death. Gary was also proceeded in death by his brothers Jack Bringham, Jimmy Bringham, Walt Bringham, and granddaughter Tonya Bringham. He is survived by brother Danny Bringham and is wife Kathy who resides in Ponca city. He is also survived by his wife Shirley Bringham and three children. Gary was married to Shirley Crawford in 1955. They had three children, Terry and wife Jerry Bringham, Robin Bringham and Tammy Mayden. He is also survived by ten Grandchildren: Samantha Lynch, Allen and wife Kristy Currier, Donnie Mayden, Dustin Bringham, Jessica Mayden, Kurt Currier, Gary and wife Megan Mayden, Austin and wife Kara Mayden, Madison and husband Danny Schork. Also has 15 Great grandchildren.

Gary Bringham was born in September 1934 in Blackwell, Oklahoma where he graduated and found himself in the United Stated Marine Corps in September of 1951. After training at San Diego, California he was then assigned to the 7th Tank Battalion, Force Troop at Camp Pendleton, California. In February 1953 through April, Captain Bringham served with the 4th Anti-Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine division. In May of 1953 he was with the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, in Korea. In 1958 he went overseas to Okinawa, Japan to serve with the 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine Division until November of 1959. In the early 1960’s he transferred to the Marine Corps recruit depot, where he would serve as a drill instructor until the mid-1960’s. He then met up again with the 3rd Tank Battalion from May 1965 through December of that year, during the Vietnam War. In January of 1966 he transferred to school demonstration troops in Quantico, Virginia, where he was promoted to second Lieutenant. Bringham then went on to Albany, Georgia where he served as supply officer until December 1969. In January 1970, he was transferred to service company 9th Engineer Battalion, Fleet Marine force and from March to August of 1970 was back in Vietnam with the 9th Battalion. After serving Vietnam, Bringham went back to Camp Pendleton from January 1971 until June of 1974. Bringham finished his time with the United Stated Marine Corps as supply officer at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba until his retirement in 1976.

During his service, Bringham was decorated with the Navy Commendation medal with V and Gold Star indicating a second award, a combat action ribbon, Presidential unit citation, Navy unit commendation, Marine corps guard conduct medal with stars, National defense service medal with 1 star, Korean service medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

The Service for Gary Bringham will be on April 15th, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Tabernacle church in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.  Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
