Karen Moncrief Obituary

 

Karen Ruth Ann (Reece) Moncrief was born March 19, 1939 in Cherokee, OK to George & Alyce (Lemon) Reece and passed away March 6, 2024 in Enid, OK.

Karen graduated from Cherokee High School in 1957, shortly after she married Rex Martin and from that marriage came 3 sons Mark A., Jerry D. and Kim A Martin.

Karen received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1969. She taught in Pond Creek Public Schools from 1969-1977 then moved to and taught in Collinsville, OK from 1980-1990. During this time, Karen received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Northeast Oklahoma State University. She then took a position in Blackwell from 1990-1991 as the High School Counselor and Ponca City’s Pioneer Technology Center from 1991-1995. Karen retired from teaching in Oklahoma in 1995 and moved to Laurens, South Carolina to teach home economics and a counselor for high school students and retired in 2000. During her time in South Carolina, she meet and married James Moncrief in April 2000. In 2004, Karen and James moved to Cherokee, OK where they enjoyed their retirement, within a few years later they made Enid their permeant home so that they would be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, grandmothers Mrs. Beulah Lemon, Zula Osburn and her beloved aunt Alberta Corbet.

Karen is survived her husband James Moncrief of Enid, OK, by her sons Mark Allen (Laura Maixner), Jerry Don (Kathy) and Kim Anthony (Janelle) all of Enid, OK, 9 Grandchildren and spouses: Shareese (James) Poplin of Edmond, OK, Mark Anthony (Misty) Martin of Enid, OK , Kasi (Kevin) Bezdicek of Enid, OK, Andrea (Austin) Creel of Medford, OK, Ashley (Zac Powell) Martin of Enid, OK, Ryan (Jenny) Martin of Enid, OK, Kinzie (Jerry) Braziel of Enid, OK, Dakota (Brittany) Martin of Enid, OK and Tristen Goans of Enid, OK. Karen also was blessed with 26 great grandchildren. Brother Danny Reece, and sister Janice Dowling of Wichita, KS and cousin Rolene (Ron) Hadwiger of Cherokee, OK plus many nieces, nephews, cousins. Karen was honored to have countless friends throughout her lifetime and many of the students that stayed in contact with her over the years. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 11, 2024 in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Luke Heim officiating.  Viewing and Visitation will be held between 5 and 7 pm Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Stittsworth's. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
