Arthur "Ray" Lewis

Arthur “Ray” Lewis, 86, of Owasso, Oklahoma, passed away on January 22, 2018 at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ray was born in Stigler, Oklahoma on December 15, 1931. He graduated from Stigler High School and continued on to receive a Bachler’s Degree from Northeastern College. After graduation, Ray served in the Air Force for three years (1953-1956), was discharged honorable and continued in the Air Force Reserves for many years.

Ray worked as an educator and principle in many schools in Oklahoma and Kansas, prior to working with people with disabilities before retirement.  Ray enjoyed music, was a piano instructor and played in a Gospel Quartet at a young age.  Ray was also actively involved in church throughout his lifetime. One of his greatest memories was his time spent in Israel in Ministry and Education during the early 1980’s. He often recalled how he was able to stand at the Sea of Galilee just as Jesus did. 

Ray is survived by son Rick Lewis and spouse Lori of Owasso, Son Kirby Lewis and spouse Lisa of Broken Arrow, daughter Sheila Blakely and spouse Pat of Broken Arrow, Grandchildren Camber Carrasco and spouse Tom, Beth Wilhelm and spouse Jesse, Roche Lewis and spouse Kristen, Rusty Lewis and spouse Jessica, Jamie Richardson, Kyle Lewis, Dustin Blakely, Josh Blakley and spouse Stephanie. Ray additional leaves behind 18 great-grandchildren. Ray was known for his quick wit, smile and gentle nature, he will be missed by all.

Ray is preceded in death by parents: Arthur “Lindsey” Lewis (1957), Wilma (Mathews) Lewis (1997). A brother Charles Lindsey Lewis (1933) and sister Joann Hearn (2017).

Ray will be laid to rest in Garland Cemetery, Stigler, Oklahoma. Family will have a small graveside service in the spring.Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com
