Richard Bishop Obituary

Richard Lee Bishop, 79, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Richard was born February 22, 1939 in Lamar, Kansas to Cecil and Muriel (Glessner) Bishop who preceded him in death.

Richard spent his childhood on a farm and was no stranger to hard work. As a young man, he enlisted and served nine years in the United States Army. As a family man, he worked in the construction industry for a number of years before he began remodeling and building homes in Kansas City and later Wichita. Always active, he continued working, with his wife by his side, well into his retiring years. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He will be remembered for his child-like wonder, his hearty laugh and his humorous quotes.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sue Bishop, his children Richard (Brenda) Bishop, Regina (Erwin) King, John (Pam) Bishop, Brenda (Jeff) DeHaven, Judy (Scott) Schaffer, Michelle (Todd) Albertson, Sheldon (Vera) Bishop, Jolene Harpstrite, Karen (Ken) Lunak, Shelia (Ted) Storey and Charlotte (JJ) Miller, as well as 36 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held at Jet United Methodist Church, Monday, May 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Jet, OK. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army.  Flowers can be sent to 413 N. Sth st.
