Zane Osburn Obituary

Zane Leroy Osburn was born September 1, 1927 on “Osborn” Street in Hutchinson, Kansas to Roy Osburn and Bessie (Terry) Osburn. In his younger years, Zane lived in many places throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas before his family settled down in Medford in early 1938. Zane was a proud 1945 graduate of Medford High School. He attended Oklahoma State University for a short time until he was called up to the draft but unable to serve. On May 22, 1955 he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Schmitz. They shared almost every moment of 64 years and 8 months of life together. They were blessed with three children.

Zane was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Medford ever since he, along with his sister, Bonnie and brother, Kenneth, attended church there for the first time in 1938. Later in the year, this became the church home for the entire family. For many years he served as elder, as well as song leader. Zane will be fondly remembered for his whole-hearted worship in song and prayer. He loved to lift his voice in song and wanted the entire congregation to do the same.

Zane and Norma worked together for many years owning Medford Auto Parts and Otasco. After they closed the store, he worked for Medford Public School as a bus driver and the Medford Grocery Store until he could no longer work.

Zane was a faithful member of the Medford Masonic Lodge for 70 years. As a member of the Masons, he also served as Rainbow Dad while Norma served as Worthy Advisor in Rainbow.

Zane loved his Lord, his family, and sports. Zane was a longtime member of the Medford City Softball Team back in the 1950’s. He excelled at playing third base. He enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, football and golf. He also loved watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in many sports and all other school activities. He always shared his own words of wisdom about how they should play and perform. He was a “Loyal and True” Oklahoma State University fan and was proud to have many of his family attend OSU.

Zane is survived by his wife Norma; his three children, Cheris Benningfield and husband John, Jr., Terry Osburn and wife, Bernadette, and Kenny Osburn and wife Tina. Grandchildren are Brandi Kay and Brent, Keri, John Reed, Joey and Jessica; Dustin and Sarah, Derek and Brandi; Jennifer and Brad, Stefanie and Shawn; Madison and Austin. Great-grandchildren are Natalee, Kelton, Kingston and Karston; Luke, Tyler and Caleb; Dylan and Alex, Karleigh, Allisyn, Connor, Peyton and Everleigh; and soon to be little one to Madison and Austin. Great-great-grandchildren are Noel; Daxton and soon to be another little boy to Dylan and Alex. His sisters, Colleen Powell, Phyllis Templeton, Evelyn Keith and numerous nieces and nephews and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie; a grandson-in-law, Trevi Edwards; and his siblings and their spouses, Bonnie and Chuck Drechslar, Kenneth and Leola Osburn, Nadine and Eldon Charles, brothers-in-law Clyde Powell and Jack Templeton.
