Charlie Hern Obituary

Charlie Douglas “Doug” Hern was born to Lawrence “Darvin” & Lila Maxine (Dark) Hern on September 19, 1943 in Enid, OK.

Doug lived with his mother on the farm North of Nash, OK until his father was discharged from the Army serving in WWII. They later made their home five miles west of Medford, where Doug attended Medford Schools until he graduated in 1961.

After graduation, Doug attended NWOSU and later transferred to and graduated from Okmulgee Tech with a degree in Heat & Air.

Doug proudly served in the Army National Guards, 1965 to 1972 .

During his early adult life Doug loved to rodeo where he entered roping competitions. His biggest passion, through-out his life, was breeding and raising greyhounds, which he occasionally raced and also hunted coyotes.

Doug worked in the heat & air industry most of his adult life. He also worked for Hilton Inn West in Oklahoma City as the Security and Maintenance Supervisor for many years. Later, he moved back to Medford to farm with his dad. After farming, he went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in Helena, OK in 2001 and retired in 2010.

 

Doug was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence “Darvin” & Lila Maxine Hern; son: Chad Douglas Hern; grand-daughter, Kamryn Renee Hern; grandson, Lane Tucker Hern & brother-in-law, Darrell Blaine Schmitz.

He is survived by: sister, Sheryl Schmitz; Nieces and nephews, Michele, Misty, Matt & Family , Cody, Kimber, Cooper & Kinzley, Jennifer, Rusty & Russ, Garrett, Darian & Family, and Lawren, Tanner & Family; Grandsons, Junior of Enid, Logan of Tonkawa, Landon & Levi of Blackwell, Colton of Medford. & family of Ponca City; son Jessie & family of Medford; daughter Laci & family of Ponca City, Daughter Tonya and family of Ponca City. 

Graveside services for Doug will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 15, 2025 in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford with Pastor Katine Aebi Roberts officiating. Services are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
