Garry Mandevill Obituary

MANDEVILL, Garry William, age 65 of Bluff City, Kansas passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Patterson Health Center in Anthony, Kansas. Garry is the oldest son of the late Gale E Mandevill and the late Patty (Vanderpool) Mandevill. Garry is survived by his wife Teresa (Burch) Mandevill, 5 children: Keri Myklebust (husband Jacob) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Joshua Mandevill of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Aaron, Mandevill of San Antonio, Texas, Zachary Mandevill of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Tia Mandevill of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren: Dakota Tettenhorst of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Rachel Myklebust of Sapulpa Oklahoma, Cooper Crosson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Liam Mandevill of Cleveland, Oklahoma. Garry also had 4 stepchildren, Brandy Painter (husband Aaron) of Sachse, Texas, Buddy Craig (partner Laura) of Prosper, Texas, Kelli Stevens (husband Dan) of Abilene, Texas, and Jacob Ediger of Carrollton, Texas. He had 8 step grandchildren, Kyli Craig, Haden Craig, Madalyn Painter, Mackenzie Stevens, Jackson, Stevens, Abby Painter, Jenna Stevens and Gracie Stevens as well as one great grandchild, Kamberly Craig. Also surviving Garry are his siblings: Robert Mandevill (wife Dea) of Medford, Oklahoma, Susan Russell (husband Matthew) of Waimea, Hawaii, and Douglas Mandevill (partner Donna) of Bellville, Texas. Garry also leaves his many nieces and nephews: Chris, April, Brandon, Eric, Carmen, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Garry attended McPherson High School and in 1975 graduated from Hutchinson Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Ultrasound Technology. He later attended the University of Kansas to further his education in the healing arts. Garry held registries in CCI, SDMS, ARDMS, AART and ASRT. Garry worked at many hospitals, but most notably the St. Francis Health System, at the Indian Health Services in Claremore, Oklahoma for 17 years, then more recently Wellington Hospital and Harper Hospital. Garry loved his patients and often checked in on them beyond his diagnostics. He was also very civic minded. He served on the Harper County Zoning Board, and the board of directors at Tulsa Tech. He mentored many students as they prepared for a career in Ultrasound and X-ray technology.

Garry was an artist, a singer, an accomplished athlete (earning a full track scholarship to Hutchinson Juco in the triple jump) and he loved golf and bowling, but his favorite passion was genealogy. He spent hours every day researching his ancestors and working on a book for his family telling the story of the Clarey-Mandevill journey. He was proud that his Mandeville ancestors were some of the founding fathers of New Orleans.

Garry and his wife Teresa worked tirelessly to restore the family farmstead, which was settled by his ancestors in 1886. When they arrived at the farmstead, nobody had lived there for 30 years and the entire place was a jungle. They managed to restore a beautiful home and bring the farmstead back to life. Garry loved the farm and his childhood memories made there.

Garry was a colorful character with the largest smile who made all of us laugh. He will be sorely missed. A memorial for Garry will be held on Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 pm at the Bluff City High School (Community Center). Flowers may be sent to 462 SE 60 Avenue, Bluff City, Kansas 67018 or in lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the Bluff City Community Center.  Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
