Homer Holden, Jr. Obituary

Homer Holden was born October 16, 1937 to Homer Hallowell and Gladys Viola Holden in Enid, Oklahoma and went to meet his heavenly father on October 1, 2022. Services will be at First Baptist Church of Medford on October 7, at 11:a.m. with pastors Billy Benson, Jonathan Gilliland and Marc Quattlebaum officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Rosemound Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Stittsworth Funeral Service, Medford.  Military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Navy,  Visitation with the family present will be held Thursday evening, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stittsworth's  of "Medford.

Homer attended school at Medford graduating in 1955, then attended Oklahoma A.& M. in Stillwater.

In 1957 he married Grace Kirk and moved to Wichita, Kansas where he worked for Cessna Aircraft Company. While in Wichita, a daughter Sherrie and son Steve were born. He also served in the United States Navy and Ready Reserve.

In 1961 Homer moved to Medford to help his ailing father with his insurance business, which he later bought in 1965. He also served as city treasurer until 1980. During this time another son was born, Brent. In 1964 Homer became the voice of the Medford Cardinals

where he enjoyed announcing for the basketball and football games for over 50 years. He also announced the Enid Shrine games for 10 years and in 1976 was proud to announce for a State Championship game in OKC.

On November 1, 1980 Homer married Cheryl LaBrue who had three children, Bart, Chey and Kris and in 1982 a daughter Layne was born. In 1994 the Holdens started placing exchange students in Oklahoma and Kansas. They placed over 100 students in host family homes and many stayed in their home making friends across the world, which allowed them to travel extensively in foreign countries.

Homer belonged to Cherryvale Grange, was a charter member of Medford Jaycees. He also was elected to Farmers Insurance Group

Presidents Council several times and was an active member of Garland Road Baptist Church in Enid. Homer was a devout Christian whose passion was to share Christ with others.

Homer is survived by his wife; Cheryl, sister; Liz Hensley, 5 Children; Sherrie (Beck) Johnson, Brent (Tinna) Holden, Chey (Keith) Jones, Kris (Tera) Couchman, and Layne (Brad) Estabrooks; 13 grandchildren; Jonelle Holden, Matthew (Jana), Clayton (Holly) and Justin (Sheldon) Johnson, Jennifer Jackson, Aunastasia Hambright, Karlie Peck, McKena (Hunter) Peck, Kenzie Jones, Maysie (Mason) Lamb, Kade Couchman, Joplin and Aspen Estabrooks. Also 15 great grandchildren; Sterling, Jay, Allie, Wyatt, Tanner, Rashel and Tori Johnson, Ryauna Garrett, Tori D’ambrosia, Legend Robinson, Jadon and Joseph Gravlee, Charlotte Jackson, Keaton and Kyler Peck.

Predeceasing Homer are his parents, and sons Steven Holden and Bart Phillips. Memorials may be made to Medford First Baptist Church or Garland Road Baptist Church. Remembrances may be shared online at www..stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
