Jay Charles Fanning was born October 14, 1963 into the loving arms of Jim and Mary Lou Fanning residing in Cherokee, OK. Jay graduated High School from Cherokee High in 1982. He joined the Army National Guard in 1981 and had AIT training his Jr and Senior Summers. He was in artillery training from 1981-1982. He was Honorably Discharged in 1984 from the Army. In 1984 Jay joined the Airforce and was active-duty specializing in Security Police, Air Base Ground Defense and Mleo Machine Gun training. He was stationed in Upper Hayford England from 1984-1986. Jay has always had a loving heart and has never known a stranger. His love and interests’ have always been in Security and Law Enforcement areas. Other special achievements include, having his Private Investigators License. He was extremely gifted in computer technology and research. Jay has traveled all over the United States, seeing the world through the windshield of an 18-wheeler.
He married Sue Richmond, May 28, 1989 where he had two wonderful children; Joy Elizabeth, Oklahoma City and James Michael, Enid. OK. He passed away and ran into the arms of Jesus on October 4, 2025.
He is survived by his ex-wife, his children, two Grand-Children, whom he adored, Ashlein Rose and Allister Phoenix, his sister Kelly and Jeff White, three Nephews, Blaine, Ty and Zackery Hellar, as well as, many cousins and friends.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday October 10, 2025 in the First Baptist Church of Cherokee with Pastor Brian Laramore officiating. Committal prayers and interment will be in the Cherokee Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
