Joan Dorothy (McWilliams) Rector

Celebration of life services for Joan Dorothy Rector, 51, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma will be held on Friday July 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Christian Life Church in Tonkawa. Pastor Josh Reese will be officiating. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service. Afterwards, per Joans request, there will be a garden party at Joan and David’s residence.

Joan Dorothy Rector was born on August 8, 1968 in Anaheim, California and passed away on July 19, 2020 at Stillwater Medical Center in Blackwell after a long difficult battle with cancer. She was raised in Lamont, Oklahoma. She attended Blackwell Christian Academy where she excelled at basketball and ended up meeting David in the 7th grade. They have been together ever since. She married David Rector on September 27, 1985. Joan received her associate’s degree from Northern Oklahoma College.

Joan had many jobs throughout her adult life, starting with Sonic and Walmart in Blackwell where she made many long-lasting relationships. She worked as an office manager for FTS and SGS for many years. In 2009, Joan and David decided to start their own company called Cheyenne Technical Services. She was an integral part in growing the company to where it is today.

Joan was a dedicated mother, “nanny” and wife first and foremost. She treasured her children and husband and embraced every single moment with them, but her favorite role was being Nanny. Her love for her granddaughters, (or her “little monkeys”) was evident in everything she did. She loved as fiercely as she lived.

Joan loved having fun and living life to the fullest, even during her fight with cancer. She always enjoyed fun outings with her friends, her family, and most importantly her husband David. She loved openly and honestly, there was never any doubt of the love she had for the people in her life. Joan understood that family was more than just blood. There were many that came into her and her kids’ lives that she took under her wing and adopted as her own. Anyone that came into her home was loved and treated as family. She loved to love.

Joan is preceded in death by her birth mother Lana Vanee, her adoptive mother Dorothy McWilliams and her brother John McWilliams.  Joan is survived by her father David McWilliams of Lamont, Husband David Rector of Tonkawa, her children Ryan and Brittany Rector of Nardin, Stephanie and Braden Lampe of Tonkawa, her Brother Scott and his wife Gina of California, Brother Jason and his wife Daniella of California, Brother Dan of Lamont, many nieces and nephews and her “little monkeys” Kaylynn and Charlee.

Before Joan passed, she left a note on her computer for all of us: “I had a wonderful life filled with love and people that I adore, there is no reason to be sad, I am having a wonderful time in heaven.”
