Open viewing and visitation for Melvin Lee Unruh, 85, Enid resident, will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Stittsworth’s. Private family only graveside services will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.
Melvin was born on October 8, 1935 in Alden, Oklahoma, the son of John Henry and Dena (Nightengale) Unruh, and passed away suddenly on January 16, 2021 in Enid. He was raised and educated in Alden, graduating from the Alden High School with the class of 1954. Melvin enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years active and four years reserve. He married Lillian Black in Alden in 1958. They moved to Enid where he worked at Vance Air Force Base, working for Serv Air in the engine department. Melvin retired from Northrop in 2000 with the title of Superintendent of the Engine Shop. Survivors include his wife, Lillian of the residence; daughters, Sonja (Kevin) Eck of Enid, Connie (Michael) Estes of Enid, and Andrea (Norman) Kent of Enid; daughter-in-law, Tommi Cobb of Arkansas, grandsons, Cody (Hailie) Unruh and Nicholas (Burgundi) Unruh of Arkansas; three great-grandsons; sister, Anna Janz of Duncan, sister-in-law Ruby Unruh of Fort Cobb and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in passing by his parents, son Lyle Unruh, 3 brothers, Lavern, Herman and Alvin, and one baby sister. Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
