Rebecca (Vega) Sandy

Rebecca Sandy, maiden name Vega, was born on May 15, 1948, in Mission, Texas, to Antonio Vega Sr. and Manuela Vega.

Rebecca was a devoted partner, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind her loving partner, Melvin Tannehill, and her beloved children: Concepcion Bocanegra and wife Lisa Bocanegra; Ricardo Bocanegra and wife Michelle Bocanegra; George Bocanegra and wife Olga Bocanegra; Jennifer Caratachea and husband Jaime Caratachea; Jessica Garces and husband Tomas Garces; and Lennox Sandy. She also leaves behind her cherished dogs — Boomer, Rascal, and Trigger.

She was one of five siblings. She is preceded in death by her father Antonio Vega Sr., her mother Manuela Vega, and her brothers Jesus Vega, Encarnacion Vega, and Antonio Vega Jr. She is survived by her loving sisters, Alicia Arcaute and Olga Garza.

Rebecca was blessed with ten grandchildren: Jaime Caratachea Jr. and wife Priscilla; Samantha Caratachea; Crystal Bocanegra; Braden Bocanegra and wife Victoria Bocanegra; Blaine Bocanegra and wife Amber Bocanegra; Nicholas Bocanegra; Logan Bocanegra; Courtney Lorg and husband Jack Touchet; Jacob Garces; and Jayden Garces. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Rebecca was a wonderful mother and a true friend to many. She had a huge heart, a radiant spirit, and a remarkable sense of humor that could make almost anyone laugh. She loved dancing and brought light into every room she entered. She loved her children deeply and unconditionally, and her family was always her greatest pride.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Angels Care Home Health, Via Christi, Ponca City Nursing Home and Rehab Center, ACG Hospice Care team, and the doctors who helped care for our mother. We deeply appreciate the compassion and support shown during this time.

She will be terribly missed, but her love, laughter, and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10 am, at 400 East Central Ave., Ponca City, in the Summit Room.
