On Sunday April 11, 2021 Rober (Bob) Askren gained his wings and started his journey home. Bob was born November 27, 1938 at home to John and Cesley (Foster) Askren. Bob was married to Rose Hunt on December 5, 1959 at the Salvation Tabernacle. To this union they were blessed with a son Robert G. Askren, Jr. Bob loved to joke around with everyone and was an avid sports fanatic, especially the OU Sooners. His niece Lorie always called to tell him when they were playing. His other niece, Raelene would wear her OSU shirt to get a rise out of him! His kindness, sweet smile, and ornery twinkling blue eyes will be missed by all. One of his favorite highlights was talking about being a Golden Glove Boxer from 1958-1961. Boxing against Danny Hodges and taking his new bride to Wichita to fight on their wedding night. Bob retired from Blackwell City Service in 1997 due to ill health. He loved going to Branson, Mo. For all the shows, especially Tanya Tucker. Bob loved baseball, football, golf, boxing, camping, and fishing. His favorite pastime was loving on his Schnauzer, named after his niece Brandi. He could listen to the song Until the Last Teardrop Falls over and over! Bob is survived by his wife Rose of the home, Granddaughter Amanda Argo of England, Sister Carolyn Bascue of Tulsa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was proceeded in death by his son Robert Askren, Jr., Parents John and Cesley Askren, Sisters Rhoda North, Etta Bell Castleberry, and Dorothy Burtin, and niece Rosalena Steddum. A memorial Service will be held April 15, 2021 at 10 am at the House of Prayer in Blackwell with Keven Bookout officiating. Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
