Steven Roy Randall February 15, 1945 – September 30, 2025
Steve Randall, born February 15, 1945, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Bunnie Randall and Pauline Birdcreek, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025. A faithful servant of Hesaketvmese and devoted advocate for the Mvskoke language, Steve dedicated over three decades of his life to preserving Creek spiritual and cultural heritage for future generations.
Raised in Henryetta, Oklahoma, Steve attended Arbeka Indian Baptist Church with his family, where he later ascended to the position of Head Deacon. He graduated from Henryetta High School and Haskell Institute in the late 1960s, where he trained in the printing trade. Steve worked in the newspaper industry in Dallas, Texas, and Norman, Oklahoma, during the 1970s, before transitioning to the automobile manufacturing industry. He began working at the General Motors production facility in Oklahoma City from its opening in the 1980s until his retirement and the factory's closure in the early 2000s.
Throughout his life, Steve's dedication was always to serving God. This calling led him to his life's work: reprinting the Mvskoke New Testament Bible and the Mvskoke-English Translated Hymnal. His efforts have ensured that the Mvskoke New Testament remains in print and available to Creek speakers and learners alike. The Mvskoke Hymnal with English translations has become an invaluable resource serving Creek communities within the Muscogee Nation and worldwide. Citizens regularly use this hymnal to sing beloved Creek hymns, maintaining the spiritual and cultural traditions that connect generations of Mvskoke people. Steve continued to serve as a Deacon at Creek Indian Churches through his songs and prayers until his passing.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bunnie Randall and Pauline Birdcreek, as well as his brothers and sisters. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Suzanne Randall of Henryetta, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lou Marie Randall-Helm of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his sons, Scott Randall of Okemah, Oklahoma, and Monte Randall of Glenpool, Oklahoma; and his grandchildren, Allyson Randall, Jadyn Viveros, Kaitlyn Helm, Ryan Helm, Hayden Scott Randall, Jacoby Steven Randall, and Jude Randall. Nieces: Regina Randall, Kimberly, Leona, and Ginger. Private services will be held at the Randall Family Cemetery.
Steve Randall's legacy lives on through every Creek hymn sung and every passage of Scripture read in the Mvskoke language, a testament to one man's unwavering faith and dedication to his people.
