Thelma Toliver Obituary

Thelma Toliver was born October 25, 1933, in Excelsior Springs, MO; she was born to Eugene and Tillie Hickman.  Upon the death of her mother, she was raised by Spencer and Eugene Hickman.  She grew up in Excelsior Springs, MO, and attended Lincoln High School. She was employed at Excelsior Springs Hospital as a surgery tech.  She also worked for Dr. Pfauth as an acupuncture assistant.  She later worked at Liberty Missouri Hospital as the supervisor of central supply. Thelma accepted Christ at an early age at Main Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. W. Palmer.  She was a Sunday school teacher, church clerk, and an active member of the senior choir.  Thelma relocated to Enid, OK, in 1978.  She received her GED in 1979; soon after, she became an employee of St Mary’s Hospital in the central supply department and later became the supervisor. Thelma also worked part-time for Wheatheart Nutrition and R.S.V.P. until her passing. After arriving in Enid, OK, she became a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Billy Mucker; she continued to be very active in the church.  Under Rev. Larry Featherstone’s leadership, she has served as the Pastor’s Aide President, a Sunday School Teacher and secretary, and a member of the church WMU. She was also a faithful member of the Western District WMU, the Interracial Women’s Club of Enid, and Church Women United of Enid. Her favorite hobby was being around her children and grandchildren where she watched them play sports everywhere. While in Enid, she met the love of her life, Jackson Toliver, Jr. They fell in love and married on October 29, 1983; there were no children born to this union. Between them they were blessed to enjoy 11 children, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson (Jack) Toliver, Jr. her parents, three grandchildren, and her Son-in-law Dale Holt. She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters: Evelyn Holt, Roslyn (Tony) Carr, Donna (Sullivan) Jackson, all of Enid, OK.  Lisa Millentree of Spartanburg, SC.  Two sons Gene (Shawna) Millentree and Rodney Millentree of Kansas City, Missouri. Stepchildren: Ruth (James) Cooper, Enid, OK., Jacquelyn Davis, Jean Hufford, Mary Martin, and Steven Toliver who all reside in Des Moines, Iowa. Her loving in-laws: “Bea” (Orville) Hazley, Betty (Stewart) Mack, Joe Louis Toliver, and JoWayne Toliver who all reside in Oklahoma City, OK.  Jacquelyn Luckett of Missouri City, TX., and Lorean Droke of Okeene, OK. Her aunt, Lucy Owens, Enid, OK, and her loving sister, Charlene Lewis, of Excelsior Springs, MO. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Larry G. Featherstone officiating.  Committal prayers and interment will follow at Enid Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors.
