Tony Jansson
July 28, 1964 – May 18, 2025
Tony Jansson, 60, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, after a prolonged illness. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Born on July 28, 1964, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Tony was the beloved son of Darlene Jansson. He spent his entire life in Tonkawa. A graduate of Tonkawa High School’s Class of 1982, Tony was a proud Buccaneer and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his classmates.
On June 5, 1987, Tony married his high school sweetheart, Jimilea Smithheisler. Their 38-year marriage was built on a foundation of love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they raised two children and built a life full of memories and joy.
Tony dedicated over three decades to the United States Postal Service, where he worked tirelessly and eventually retired as Postmaster of the Tonkawa Post Office in 2024. Known for his dependability and friendly demeanor, Tony was a familiar and trusted face to countless Tonkawa residents over the years.
In addition to his postal career, Tony gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Tonkawa Fire Department for eight and a half years. He took pride in helping others and was always quick to lend a hand or share a kind word.
Tony had a unique gift for conversation—he never met a stranger and had a special talent for making people feel seen and valued. His warm smile and easygoing nature put others at ease, and he often said that his greatest satisfaction came from making someone else’s day a little brighter.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—riding motorcycles on open roads, spending time at the shooting range, and, most of all, being surrounded by his family. Tony had a sharp wit, a big heart, and a deeply rooted belief in following "simple basic instructions," a phrase he often used both in jest and as practical wisdom.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife, Jimilea Jansson; his son Shane Jansson and daughter-in-law Elissa; his daughter Meghan Jansson; and his cherished grandchildren, Cameron, Jaydeince, and Alex. He is also remembered fondly by extended family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors whose lives he touched throughout the years.
A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at a later date to allow friends and family to gather in remembrance of the man who gave so much of himself to others. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Tony’s honor.
Tony’s legacy lives on in the laughter he shared and the kindness he showed. He will be deeply missed.
